WHAT’S THE ROI OF WRITING A BUSINESS BOOK?
WE SURVEYED 300+ AUTHORS TO FIND OUT
We work with countless business and thought leadership book authors who all ask the same question: what kind of return on my investment can I expect from this project? To answer those queries, we realized we needed actual data — not just anecdotal evidence. So we did something about it.
In partnership with Amplify Publishing, Smith Publicity, and Thought Leadership Leverage, we conducted the first-ever large-scale study of business authors to gauge the payoff of putting out a book — surveying more than 300 respondents who published through traditional, hybrid, and self publishing paths.
The key takeway from our research? It turns out that 64 percent of authors report making a profit from their books beyond sales. Moreover, investing in an overall business strategy, using a ghostwriter, doing publicity, and publishing multiple books correlate with higher profits. For example, ghostwritten books are four times as profitable as self-written ones.
