Ghostmasters 101: How to Break into the Business of Ghostwriting

Digital Communications Manager (Hourly; Part-time)

Gotham Ghostwriters, the country’s premier ghostwriting agency, is looking for a dynamic storyteller and strategic thinker to continue expanding and enhancing the visibility, reach, and reputation of our business.

We are a small disruptive company in full growth mode. We have assembled the largest network of longform writing pros in the country — more than 3,200 book ghostwriters, speechwriters, whitepaper whizzes, and other assorted specialists. The depth and diversity of our network — along with our sterling reputation for delivering high-quality content and service — are attracting an expanding list of authors and thought leadership clients (Fortune 100 brands, top entrepreneurs, global advocates, etc.) who need expert help telling and selling their stories.

You are a driven, versatile, self-starter with a real passion for the written word, a deep knowledge of and interest in the publishing industry, and a strong entrepreneurial streak. You have a history of developing and leading social and digital strategies and executing successful initiatives with measurable results.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are looking to engage someone who will do for Gotham what we do for our clients: create engaging, insightful, value-adding content that showcases our authority, elevates our brand, and ultimately spurs premium clients to seek us out. The right person will revel in having a broad mandate to raise our brand awareness with our target markets – particularly C-suite leadership and the thought leadership universe — and generate high-value leads for our different practice areas.

This position will report directly to the CEO.

In particular, the Digital Communications Manager will be responsible for:

  • Working with our CEO and practice leaders to shape editorial approach and creative voice for all digital and social communications, including LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook, and email newsletters.
  • Taking the lead, in a hands-on capacity, in developing the overall social-media strategy, with a heavy emphasis on newsletters and other events/channels that highlight our expertise. This includes our upcoming inaugural convention and awards program, slated for January 22, 2024.
  • Creating high-value content on the topics of publishing, ghostwriting and collaboration, book writing, speechwriting, platform building, and thought leadership
  • Proposing, implementing, and tracking ROI of social marketing campaigns
  • Expanding Gotham’s audience and elevating our platform to reach prospective new clients.
  • Managing the day-to-day distribution of original content via our own website/blog, social media platforms, and other distribution channels
  • As requested, support CEO and COO on other traditional communications tasks, including writing and distributing announcements and press releases

QUALIFICATIONS:

Keys to success for this position are exceptional writing skills, strategic thinking, non-stop initiative, and being equally adept at working independently as well as part of a team. Specific requirements are:

  • 3+ years of experience in a communications and/or digital marketing role within the publishing industry; and/or experience in publishing public relations;
  • A proven track record of unique and compelling audience engagement campaigns and strategic messaging initiatives.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and storytelling skills
  • Extremely detailed oriented
  • A solid portfolio of digital comms materials that you produced, including a variety of marketing and comms assets, including blog posts, LinkedIn posts, newsletters, etc.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills and the ability to operate independently once strategy is set
  • Proven experience with data-driven content and campaigns
  • Expertise in WordPress, Google Analytics, LinkedIn and Facebook Ads, Canva, and other relevant platforms
