Ghostmasters 101: How to Break into the Business of Ghostwriting

AI and the Writing Profession Survey

COMING SOON

The impact of artificial intelligence on our work and  careers is top of mind for most every writer.

Anecdotally, we know that a lot of writers have a lot of strong feelings about what the technology means for their livelihoods. But for all the conversation and concern being shared, we have very little meaningful data available to show how writers are using AI now and what they really think about both the existential and practical issues that AI presents for the profession.

The AI and the Writing Profession survey aims to fill this vacuum, much as we did with the Business Book ROI Study, by canvassing a large and wide cross-section of professional writers, including journalists, copywriters, speechwriters, ghostwriters, technical writers, and grant writers, regarding their use of and attitudes about AI.

The survey will specifically examine:

How are writing pros currently using the technology?

How is the technology is affecting their day-to-day work?

What do they think the long-term effect on the career will be?

SURVEY RESULTS WILL BE PRESENTED IN NOVEMBER 2025

We will do substantial analysis of the data to highlight trends and then publish a detailed research report. The report will describe the profile of the survey participants, analyze their AI use and how it varies by job profile, describe their attitudes towards AI and the future, and project the impact of AI on the writing industry.

A free copy of the report will be available to everyone who participates in the survey.
